Connect to the Network

Every day, students, faculty, staff, and visitors use Stanford’s centrally-provided network to connect to resources here and across the globe.

If you’re a Stanford affiliate and need to connect to university computing resources or networks from off-campus, you can use the Stanford Virtual Private Network (VPN) service.  Wireless access to the university's online resources is widely available across campus, including most academic and administrative buildings.

Self-registration

Self-registration on the Stanford Visitor wireless network is the quickest and easiest way to connect:

  1. Select the SSID Stanford Visitor from your device's list of available wireless networks.
  2. Open a browser and load any URL; you will be redirected to an access page (on a mobile phone, the access page should open automatically).
  3. Click the button to acknowledge the terms of use. Your browser will be sent to a confirmation page and from there you can get online.

NOTE: You must be affiliated with Stanford to register and connect to the campus-wide hard-wired (Ethernet) network.

Wireless Guest Accounts

With a Wireless Guest Account, sponsorship and advance setup are required but access is less restricted and your connection may be faster than on the Stanford Visitor network.
