Changing internet service providers

You have many choices for internet service providers. We encourage you to explore your options and identify the one that best meets your needs. The following list includes just some of the internet service providers in the Palo Alto area. Remember, you will enter into an agreement directly with your provider of choice. For comparison purposes, Stanford DSL provides an average bandwidth of 1.5 MB for $35 a month.

  • Comcast — Comcast offers discounts of 32–42 percent for their Business Class Internet service to all Stanford affiliates who have a current SUNet ID. The Business Class Internet service provides a static IP address and faster trouble resolution response time than residential services.
Visit comcast.com for affordable residential Internet service options and cost-saving cable TV and internet service bundles. Please note that residential services do not provide a static IP address.
  • AT&T — Visit www.att.com/shop/internet for special offers and bundles, especially if you subscribe to other AT&T services.
  • Local providers — Sonic and Astound do not offer additional discounts to Stanford affiliates, but they offer high speed internet service at very competitive prices. Please check their websites to see whether service is available in your area.

Returning your Stanford DSL modem

You may return the equipment to your department if your department desires.  Alternatively, you may keep or recycle the equipment at Forsythe Hall, 275 Panama Street, Room 145. For after-hours access, dial 3-1611 from the callbox at the front door.
