IT Services supports the Managed Virtual Server environment on a 24/7 basis. Support includes the setup and management of the virtual server and associated OS.
For additional information about Managed Virtual Server, please submit a HelpSU request, or call 5-HELP (650-725-4357).
Supported operating system types
Virtual servers (also known as virtual machines) are supported for the following OS types:
- Red Hat Enterprise 5 and 6 (most current minor release, 32- and 64-bit)
- Debian 6.0 (Squeeze)
- Ubuntu (latest release)
- Windows Server 2003 R2 (32-bit or 64-bit)
- Windows Server 2008 (32-bit or 64-bit)
- Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit only)
Supported virtual server sizes
IT Services offers virtual servers in six sizes. Each size can use up to the specified resource levels. For more information on additional storage, see the Backup & Storage tab on the Computing Services Rates Page.

This service includes three data snapshots at no additional charge.
To request regular snapshots, or to arrange for a snapshot at a special time, file a HelpSU request one or more business days in advance.
If you need virtual machine (VM) snapshots beyond the three that are provided, a dedicated datastore is required. This will provide as many snapshots as can fit on that datastore and be sustained (I/O throughput) by the disk spindles for that storage.
In some rare circumstances, the I/O generated from snapshots can cause problems with VMotion/DRS. If an issue of this sort occurs, we will make every effort to work out a mutually agreeable solution that mitigates the problem before taking the required action to ensure the quality of service in the shared virtualization cluster.
