Google Classic Sites Migration
Google will begin automatically migrating Google Classic Sites to the new Google Sites platform starting Jan. 30. Site administrators will no longer have editing capabilities on Classic Sites.
After the migration is complete, migrated Sites will be viewable in the draft folder. Once a Site administrator publishes their new websites from drafts, content from their classic Sites will transfer to the new platform with original domains and editing capabilities.
Why is this change happening?
The new Google Sites has more intuitive technology, better integration with Suite applications, and an up-to-date look.
The new Sites enables users to:
- Create mobile and desktop-friendly web pages without programming expertise
- Collaborate in real-time with other administrators
- Track performance analytics
- And more
If you’re unsure if you are a Google Site owner, visit the Classic Sites Manager.
Migration sequence
Here is Google’s predicted sequence for the migration process:
- Starting Jan. 30, Site administrators will no longer have editing privileges on Classic Sites. However, websites will remain viewable until the automatic conversion.
- Google will begin migrating Classic Sites to the new Google Sites platform. Content will be converted to new draft websites for admins to review and publish.
- Classic Sites will be deleted after admins publish their new Google Site.
Please note: The conversion takes time, especially for sites with a lot of content.
